Visitor Tips
Water
Don't drink tap water. Buy bottled water for drinking and brushing teeth. Confirm ice at restaurants is made from purified water.
Altitude
At ~2,000m (6,500 ft), mild altitude effects are possible. Stay hydrated, take it easy on day one, and limit alcohol while adjusting.
Cell Service
Coverage can be spotty in smaller towns. Save emergency numbers to your phone before arriving. 911 works from any cell phone.
Medical
The local Centro de Salud handles basic needs. For anything serious, hospitals are in Tepatitlán (~20 min) or Guadalajara (~1.5 hrs).
Money
Bring cash — many small businesses don't accept cards. There is one ATM inside Farmacia Tepa (Zaragoza 88), available during business hours only. For banks, head to Tepatitlán.
Driving
Roads from Guadalajara are well-maintained. Watch for livestock on rural stretches. Toll road via Zapotlanejo is fastest.
